These are great things! I've used them for my own pets, and recommend them to all of my clients. It makes giving medicine so much easier!

I haven't seen or used the collars, but behavior is a strong interest of mine. I have often recommended Feliway or DAP to my clients for a variety of anxiety-based behaviors. Studies are varied on the results, and can range from 40% to 70% improvement in anxiety signs. It's encouraging, though. Even enough that the University of Georgia recently conducted a study on using DAP for storm phobias (I don't know the results of the study).

I would definitely recommend them as something to try. There aren't any side effects, so it's certainly not going to hurt and may just help.

A great topic, and a problem that I see not infrequently. Something else to add is to not breed dogs with this problem, as there is a definite genetic tendency and you DON'T want to pass these genes along. I have a client that is breeding their English bulldogs, despite us having told them multiple times that they shouldn't do it. The male has two cherry eyes and the female has one. In a breed that already has a tendency for this problem, and both parents have the problem, do you think that the puppies will have a much, much higher tendency for the problem?

Chipping in with the $.02 worth -- the OFA certification(s) that most breeds really should have can't be made official until the dog is at least two years old, too. Lots of other health tests can be done before then, but not the orthopedic ones.

This is a very serious problem, and can happen extremely suddenly. Unfortunately, many times the cat doesn't get to the vet in time to treat it. A good topic for discussion!

This happened to my wild-and-crazy Orion, too, "The Evil Orange Cat." There didn't seem to be any warning at all; one day he was the mighty hunter, the next he was immobile under the desk. Thanks for posting about this. I hadn't heard of it until it happened to my cat.

I really appreciate what you are doing on your blog. I too found your link on CraigsList, and I sincerely thank you for your helpful entries. I could relate to a lot of them. I own all rescue animals, it's what I believe in. I have an apricot toy poodle (11yo), a black poodle (2yo), a cat (7yo), 4 kittens I rescued from a fast food drive-thru, and a parakeet.

I have concerns about all of them, mainly because I am sensitive and I want to protect them. Your blog will help keep me informed, and in turn help my beloved pets.

So, Thank you!
