About Me

Published by petlvt

I’m a licensed veterinary technologist in NY State (B.S. Veterinary technology) with a Masters Cert in marine mammal science and associate of science in business.

I’ve worked with animals for over a decade professionally, starting with my true love: shelter dogs and cats. I currently work online as a veterinary expert answering questions on various health and behavioral topics, and also work in a large general/specialty/emergency facility just outside of NYC.

I am currently owned by a 70 lb pitbull/boxer/shepherd male dogĀ and an all white, blue eyed DSH female cat.

Hello to both of you who commented above. I write this blog as my hobby and hopes of helping as many of you as i can. However, working FT at a hospital over an hr away from my home, then having to work online at a forum takes up most of my time. While I wish I could answer you detailed about your issues, I have time to write just a small amount each night, and that I do in my blog. I will definitely at some point be writing blogs similar to what each of you go through, but cannot unfortunately write to each person who contacts me individually about their issues. Instead, if it is something you need a second opinion on, I would suggest registering here for 24/7 service and immediate professional answers (though it does cost $9 if you get an acceptable answer):

    Good luck to you both.

Hi, I just found your blog from a link on craigslist and I really enjoyed reading it because it is written in normal-everyday language. Thank You for taking the time to do it.

If you ever run out of subjects, I would love to read about bad breath in dogs. Does teeth cleaning work? How about those mint flavored waters or doggie breath mints? I would be interested in hearing what kind of things cause it and what you have seen as a remedy.

Anyway, Thanks again for making this available to everyone!

What a great web site! Thank you for dedicating your time, interest, and energies to educating us about our animal companions.
Do you have any work experience or training in homeopathy?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
    Barb
(Reply: Thanks Barb. I do have some education and experience with homeopathic, though much more limited than I do with traditional medicine. Most of that came when i worked closely with a vet who is certified with acupuncture & chiropractic, so i learned more than I was used to at the time on supplements and chinese herbs and non-traditional medicine combined with what we were doing. Quite an experience and I’m a firm believer in using the 2 together to achieve the most natural yet healthy life in our pets. Thanks for your kind words and for reading the blog.)

I love this web site! It’s a great thing you are doing, helping out people and their pets.

I have a miniature dachshund named Turk, he has had a patch on his side where he lost all his hair. it’s not very big, and I am almost certain that it is demodex mange. I used to be a vet tech and saw many cases of it. I know that it’s caused by stress (which lowers their immunity), but I am out of a job and was wondering of there are any at home remedies for it. I know getting ivermectin would be the best solution, but can not afford a vet visit and a prescription. Please let me know if there is anything I can do myself to maybe help it. Thank you!

    Hey!
Awesome site. i happened upon it and thought i would check it out. very informative! i am a first time cat owner, and have been reading all that i can while out on deployment. i had to leave my poor baby Katie behind with a reliable friend who is babysitting her for the 6 months i am away.

It’s sad, but we have done this before, and she doesn’t seem to mind it much. (She is a torti afterall… and that tortie attitude) Anyway,
i love your site though. =) I am in the process of getting my Bachelors in Natural science and mathmatics, and will be going to vetrinarian school once i hit my shore duty time in a few more years.

i think what you are doing is awesome.

    Well, thanks!

    (No need to reply.)

I really appreciate what you are doing on your blog. I too found your link on CraigsList, and I sincerely thank you for your helpful entries. I could relate to a lot of them. I own all rescue animals, it’s what I believe in. I have an apricot toy poodle (11yo), a black poodle (2yo), a cat (7yo), 4 kittens I rescued from a fast food drive-thru, and a parakeet.

I have concerns about all of them, mainly because I am sensitive and I want to protect them. Your blog will help keep me informed, and in turn help my beloved pets.

    So, Thank you!
